Keeping women and vulnerable adults safe

It is very good to be aware of where our children are and what they are doing; but what about women and other vulnerable adults staying safe as well? As adults, we are the only ones who can tell ourselves what we can do to stay safe. Here are a couple of pointers: Don’t park in an area that will be dark and shielded from view, especially if you know it will be after nightfall when you go to retrieve your car. Use valet parking when it is available. Always be aware of your surroundings, and thi… Continue

Happiness Is optional

If one wishes to be happy, they must remember that happiness is not having what you want, but rather, wanting what you have. It is also a choice that one makes. We can live in the misery with painful memories of the past. Or we can choose to let go of the pain and start fresh. The experiences we have had can become tools we use to have empathy for others. When we have been in the same painful spot as another individual, we can ease their burden by sharing our own trials. Sometimes our own exper… Continue

Why Blog about Abuse??

Why? It has been asked: Why write about such a dark and painful subject in my blog? I had to think long and hard to come up with an adequate answer. It is my hope to open a dialogue for those who have their own abuse issues hidden away like dirty little secrets. For myself, I was lucky enough to find others who had suffered what I endured. As a sort of group therapy we discussed our feelings and were able to heal in this manner. We discovered within our little group that we were not unique, no… Continue

Teaching the children

I hope all parents are teaching their children to enjoy reading. Writers of children's books are doing a great job of getting the attention of the young. They have my deepest admiration. children who read today will become the avid readers of tomorrow. By reading good literature, children will broaden their knowledge base and their horizons. It is the stuff dreams are made of and built on. The libraries have their children's sections and many offer story times. I wonder how many parents are abl… Continue

AMazon Contest for Breakthrough Novel.

I just heard that Amazon is hosting a contest seeking the next breakthrough novel. The grand prize winner’s book will be published by Penguin Group. There seems to be quite a few prizes as well for those who don't get the grand prize.

Does anyone know about this? The deadline for entries is Nov. 5, and I believe the site said the contest would be limited to 5,000 entries.

If you are interested, you can check it out here:

Let’s talk about respect

When a person treats others with respect, it is natural to expect the same in return. When one is disrespected, they tend to avoid those who do it to them. Or they dish out some of what they have received. Either way, it is abuse; it can be in the written, physical or verbal form. I have received emails that contain what can only be described as ‘text speak’. If one is text messaging others, this is probably quite appropriate.

However, in written communication, this is not acceptable.

nine eleven revisited

For many, September 11th will always be in their minds, and for others it may simply be another day until the news on TV or the radio jogs their memories. It is a day that will always bring thoughts of terrorists for me.

Unthinkable to most of us, but there are those who would destroy our way of life, thinking it evil. Is that really their reasoning, or are they afraid of the freedoms we enjoy? If we are doing something wrong, why are so many trying to come here to enjoy the same freed

Wonderful reviews to share with you.

Our New Book Review

Mother's Journals, Parts 1, 2 & 3 by Zada Connaway is a novel that transpires through generations. Connaway's ability to make her characters real, and draw the reader into their emotions is superb. A spell binding, true-to-life story, filled with mystery and showing how something that effects one's life also effects others around them. I Laughed, I cried and many times found that I was doing bot
