Watching the previews of the 2010 Winter Olympics made me realize how very much alone we, as writers are in own field of dreams. Each athlete has personal stories to tell about coaches, teammates, family, friends and sometimes entire towns cheering them on.
When they had doubts, when they fell on the ice, or landed in a pile of snow, numerous supporters were ready at a moments notice to help them back on their feet. And when they were finally in the arena, thousands of spectators watched, cheer…

We all stay so busy during the year, writing, editing, promoting, and finding time for those who are precious to us. As Christmas draws closer, I have started to bake cookies and go through my recipe box of old family favorites to plan holiday meals for special loved ones. It's interesting how I can pull out a recipe card and go back in time to cherished moments in my life, moments I never want to forget.
I hope you will stop your fever-pitch writing long enough to enjoy the things that make li…

In the world of writing, there are many wonderful specialisations: Whilst some authors may concentrate on writing thrillers or love stories, a very important function is that of the historic or research writer who records almost forgotten facts and happenings - just when they are about to slide into oblivion!
One such expert is Jenny Davies who is a child of Melbourne, Australia and her first creation is a very impressive achievement indeed! Having been born with an inquisitive mind and solid re…

To say this was the most exciting challenge I've ever attempted and SUCCEEDED, is to put it mildly. With only 3 days to go, and 8,000 words to write, I really put my fingers and creativity into high gear!
Didn't help that near the end, my main character said one line...ONE LINE, that took the e…

Dear Friend,
It is a kind of love that keeps us writers producing outpourings of exudations, always trying to find the most descriptive words and concise grammar.
Especially, when we have a story to follow, that is, our chapter outline, it is sometimes difficult to concentrate on dealing with an inc…

Welcome, dear Friends,
When do authors of books, writers of short stories and poems get their best ideas? Is there a technique that turns on this tap of creativity?
These are often asked questions and the answer is not an easy one. In the absence of any rules and regulations, I can only speak about my own…

So here's another day I'm not writing. This is summer-garden-gathering season in full throttle! I get up and walk and get to the garden before the heat and humidity catch up with me. Yesterday, I shelled peas until 11 pm. I love 'em! Today I've pulled squash, cut okra, picked two rows of butterbeans, and a 1/2 gallon of blueberries. I have just blanched the beans and bagged them for the freezer. Finished with that. Some of the other items will go in the fridge. Now I'm planning a nice supper to…
