- I was raised on the bluffs above the Missippi in Southwestern Illinois and roamed the woods of our land there as a girl. I've returned to this area now. I live in St. Louis and frequently visit my nonegenarian father at the homeplace.

I'm about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.
Thanks for the story of reading by candlelight in St. Louis. I spent 5 years in Africa, so I can surely relate. Many a night we read by our Aladin Lamps...and discovered the true meaning of treasure.
I enjoyed visiting your website. I've driven through St Louis often. I was there last summer when you had that terrible thunderstorm and there was no electricity. I had a speaking engagement on Sunday morning and it was the first time I had done so by candlelight! Must admit, it made feel right at home since I live in Turkey and electric cuts are more common to us there. Hope to stay in touch and encourage one another. Visit my column:
