Profile Information

My hometown:
In many ways I feel as though I have two hometowns. I was born in a Stayton Oregon and moved to Canada with my parents when I was six. My entire extended family still lives in the US, while all my siblings and their children remain in Canada. My patriotism is in terms of the globe.
When we moved to central British Columbia, our farm-to-be was 320 acres of trees at the end of a three quarters of a mile long tractor trail. We had no indoor plumbing until I was sixteen and my brother and I had a trap line together. In those times leghold traps were legal and fake fur coats were no more than a glint in some entrepreneur’s eye. Canada still measured distance in miles and land in acres. Forty below is still forty below in any measure.
Since those years of piling lumber and picking roots, I’ve become a teacher and a writer. My beginnings have allowed me to fully appreciate the simple things in life like a warm crackling fire that offers more than warmth, while my education and experience have helped me develop a global perspective. More than anything, I hope that man’s collective wisdom will grow enough to save us from ourselves.
When I was young my world was the woods and the farm. Things have changed a lot since then.
My books:
The Banderman Odyssey

A sudden lack of fossil fuels creates a disintegrating economy. Most of the world's population is unprepared for survival without goods provided through large scale transportation. In cities, people's basic needs cannot be met. The wise flock to the countrysides where life is at least a possibility.

Jason Banderman, born into this new world, survives a tragedy that steals his mother from him. He journeys in search of his missing father, traveling hundreds of kilometres, following a trail that is years cold, in a world that is slowly returning to its once wild splendour. Even though there are new dangers to avoid and lessons to be learned, Jason's biggest obstacle is one man's greed. He must overcomes all to find his father and fulfill his hope of rediscovering the one thing that he cherishes above anything else... family.

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the welcome!!! I've never been to Oregon City, is that in the east? I live in a very mild climate on the southern coastline. We don't get quite as much rain as Portland area and we do see sunshine in winter, rarely does it freeze. I just hate the cold, but I dislike the hot weather even more!!
Looking forward to some good sharing and networking here!
Best wishes,
Carol
