This sounds interesting. We represent 28 authors, most of which are published by traditional publishers, but a few of our clients are self-published. Has anyone had experience with the Author Collective? My number is 847-615-5462.

You have suggested some very good ideas. An author has to do so much himself. If an author can hire a good public relations person, this can really catapult him into the news. Even with PR, the author has to be willing to work with the media and b...

To answer you would take hours. The book "1001 Ways to Market Your Book" by John Kremer will give you the answers. We get authors on radio and TV and this will work if you write non-fiction or if your topic is unique.

Rita, why did you have to pull your books from your publisher? I am sorry you had to go through all of that work, but if 300 sites had your books on them, that sounds good to me.

I write romance, children's and westerns. I've been around a while and am on the net all over the place. I just pulled all my books from a publisher I"ve been with for seven years. I had to pull my books off of over 300 sites that had them up. It was no easy job, let me tell you.

In three months I resold every book. That was a job too, because of all the reformatting and editing I did with my books.

I've been promoting myself for years, nearly ten now. But I am not in a place where I can afford a PR firm yet.

You can view my site though at: http://ritahestand.com

Who knows what the future might bring. I have a very good western coming out in January from Class Act Books and I think it might cause some stir.
It has some real issues in it that will make people think.

Love and blessings
Rita

Just returned from Book Expo America

This year's 2009 Book Expo was pared down from the past, but this reflects the recession. We went to great seminars, many about the importance of social media and selling books. There were great authors signing books there and thousands of books were given away if you didn't mind standing in line. I was too busy to take advantage of the freebies. The hot hot categories this year are teens and vampires. I had better unpack now and get to sleep. I will blog more about this tomorrow.
