Profile Information

My hometown:
I was born in San Diego, California. With the exception of a year in Hartford, Connecticut in the early 1970's, I lived there until I joined the U. S. Air Force in 1980. I became a Security Policeman where I served in a squadron attached to Federal Republic of Germany Luftwaffe base in a joint NATO partnership.

After my discharge, I worked various jobs until I landed in the aerospace industry. Then, I went into the mortgage industry for a year before moving into real estate, where I've been for the past 20 years.

In 2005, I had a brush with death that forced me to look at my life. I asked myself what I would regret not having done today if I left this world tomorrow. Becoming a published author, a childhood dream, was the void I had in my life. I set out to do just that.

Now, after much hard work, I've accomplished my goal. I've been published in many popular books, including four in the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series. My life and the wonderful people I've met along the way have made great stories to share with the world.

And I've only just begun.

The past year has been bitter-sweet. My wife took ill in November of 2008 and I nearly lost her in September of 2008. I've been her sole caregiver for over 15 months. This has, of course, taken my focus away from my real estate business when I need that focus the most, given the economic situation. But this past December, I completed the first draft of my first novel. It's the only thing that kept us going.

Currently, I live in Ontario, California, with my wife Lisa and our Black Lab-Border Collie mix, Lacie. She's smarter than both of us!
My books:
- My Dad is My Hero: Tributes to the Men Who Gave Us Life, Love, and Driving Lessons ("Well, I've Had A Plenty") to be published in May of 2009

- Daily Devotions for Writers (Two devotions) published in April of 2008

- Chicken Soup for the Soul Celebrating People Who Make a Difference: The Headlines You'll Never Hear (“Learning to Share”) published in January of 2008.

- Chicken Soup for the Soul in Menopause: Living and Laughing through Hot Flashes and Hormones ("God, I'm Shvitzing!") published in June of 2007.

- A Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas ("Unexpected Guests") published in November of 2007.

- Letters to My Mother: Tributes to the Women Who Give Us Life--and Love ("Thank God for the Sandwiches") published in March of 2007.

- Teacher Miracles: Inspirational True Stories from the Classroom ("She Gently Opened Doors") published in March of 2007.

- Chicken Soup for the Soul Healthy Living Series: Arthritis ("A Visit From Arthur") published in October of 2006.

82,614 Words Later

It was 8:34 am on December 20, 2008. My eyes were tired and my brain felt like mush. I’d been working on this project since May 29th. After having quite a few short stories published, I decided to start my own novel. I worked on the plot and characters meticulously. The time had come to begin.

It was a struggle getting the first five thousand words. But I continued to write. Then, I hit 10,000 words and I continued to write.

I hit 20,000 words and I started to feel like I had something special… Continue

Whoops! She Did It Again!

It was an interesting afternoon of writing indeed. It had rained for most of the day and our electricity for the neighborhood had been shut off since the early morning. After numerous frustrating calls to the electric company, they continued to move the estimated time for restoration of service later and later unable to locate the cause of the outage. I normally write on a laptop, which of course has battery power. But a battery can only last so long.

I made arrangements for my wife to be cared… Continue
