When Anna MacDonald leaves Edinburgh to find peace in the Scottish Highlands, she gets a twofold surprise: a lost sailor teaches her to love again…while a mysterious stranger has plans to kill her.
Passed over for promotion by her boss—and boyfriend, Anna walks off the job in anger. But being reactionary has its price. No longer afford the rent on her Edinburgh apartment, she retreats to the only place she has ever felt happy – her grandmother's croft on the edge of a Highland loch. With no phone or neighbours, and only two border collies for company, Anna sets out to finally achieve her lifelong dream; to write—and sell—the novel that has burned within her for years.
Luke Tallantyre, a renowned Cape Cod artist, has sailed across the Atlantic to escape an artistic dry spell. When his yacht develops a problem he drops anchor in Loch Hourn. He rows ashore, and knocking on the door of the croft, asks to use the telephone, but the reception he receives is less than welcoming – in fact it's downright frosty.
Anna resents the cranky American’s intrusion to her seemingly idyllic life. Luke thinks she’s an ill-mannered hermit. But an unseen assassin is after one of them. So they unwillingly join forces and embark on an adventure neither ever imagined…including a chance at true love.

The House on the Shore is a sensually suspenseful story filled with non-stop action, romance, and mystery. The facts of Scotland are told with brilliant description that bring the land to life and leave you feeling as if you have stepped out of your world and into the pages. Ms. Howard uses such passion and emotion when telling her story, making the tale flow right along until the last page is turned. With many different characters that will keep you guessing, this novel is the perfect example of how a suspenseful story should be told. …Thrilling until the very end, this book has a who-done-it attitude with such an aching tone of sensuality and love, it will keep you up all night just so you can finish this fantastic tale.

Skye Dunbar needs to get away from London to put a disastrous affair behind her. When she rents a small cabin in Washington State’s San Juan Islands, the last thing she expects is to be accused of computer hacking.
Marine biologist Jedediah Walker is called in to investigate the large number of dead marine life being washed up on the islands beaches. And he has another problem – an unexpected, beautiful and suspicious new tenant renting his cabin. When Walker discovers that the fish contain a high concentration of toxic chemicals, he suspects that the chemicals are being deliberately dumped in Puget Sound. And later, when someone hacks into his computer, he realises it is no coincidence and sets out to find out more about his mysterious new tenant.
However, Skye doesn’t like Walker from the moment she lays eyes on him. He feels the same. But that’s about to change.
Reviewer Comments: Three Weeks Last Spring is a romance that takes the reader on a remarkable journey that gets better with each page. Skye and Jedediah both have problems that continue to be troublesome but no matter how bad things appear, their hearts seem to connect but neither wishes to be the first to express so. It is like a cat and mouse game of wits. One thing is certain; Ms. Howard spins a tale that places the reader directly into the lives of the characters. The blending in of the plot with the fish and the breaking into the computer made the story flow smoothly. The other secondary characters contribute to the storyline to make this read a great adventure. With a plate full of action-packed adventure that kept this reader entertained, Ms. Howard creates an enjoyable read.

I can say in all honesty that Victoria Howard has written a page turner with her debut novel. While reading Three Weeks Last Spring you are not only reading about what is happening to Skye at the present time, but piece by piece you also find out what happened with her before she went to Seattle, about her troubled relationship .This makes your understanding of her sharpen more and more by every piece. So much happens in this wonderful book, too much to write all down in a review. But if it would be possible to rate this book 6 flags, I would do it immediately. This book is filled with so much suspense and of course romance, it deserves more than the maximum score!

I hope 2008 is a good year for you!
I grew up reading Georgetta Hayer books, so we have our love of regency romances in common. I guess that's why I chose to write romance, but I err to the suspense side of the genre. I live in South Yorkshire, on the edge of the Derbyshire Dales. If you've seen the new version of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly, then you may or may not know that Darcy's "home" was actually Chatsworth House, about an hours drive from here. Tonbridge is much further south. If you get across the pond in 2008, be sure to let me know and we can try and meet up. I have a friend in Pittsburgh with whom I attended the Pennwriters Conference in May this year.
Having previously lived in Scotland for 20 years - I have a love of all things Scottish!
Thank you for your kind comments on my smile. You have a charming one too.
Best wishes,

You've got the kind of face and smile that is *automatically* likeable, so consider us new friends, and thanks for the invite. Is Sheffield anywhere near Tonbridge? I have two friends who live there, and one of my 2008 goals is to cross the pond and explore some of your turf. I can't wait!
Thanks again,
