Ray, Jeannie event? I'm not sure how this word relates? Buzz Aldrin has a new book released on his role in Apollo 11 and difficulties "after going to the moon." I think I remember more from those who have reported on this event since than the da...

I recently read a quote that made sense in a history book. It was, "We need to learn from history, not copy it." I really do see history being copied, but usually by those who don't even realize they are doing so. I am a great believer in the impo...

I think those are important considerations. My historical novels were supposed to be only for family and I made them novels because I thought they'd be more inclined to read them than if they were names, dates and places. My Cuba Missile Crisis b...

Yes, that is an important consideration. Showing and not being encyclopedic are real challenges when writing history. Carol

I had a regular job in social work where I wrote quite a lot. I wrote treatment plans, progress notes, all about people's lives, and I wrote them like stories they could read if they requested. I wrote a policy book that was read by few, but got r...

Kim, Beautiful poem. It says a lot of what I believe about writing about history and family. "To get to tomorrow, you have to have yesterdays," is a wonderful phrase. Carol

How's this: When Christopher Columbus landed on the northern coast of this island on October 28, 1492, between 75,000 and 600,000 indigenous people made up the population. I think that is what you are talking about here. Carol

I wrote a historical based on family, from family stories but with embellishment. I have an artist ancestor paint a picture for his daughter of a gray dog. After reading the book, a cousin called and told me he had that painting. That was interest...

Profile Information

My hometown:
Born in Chicago and now live in Prairie du Sac, a small town north of Madison, Wisconsin, but also loving our cabin farther north among many tall trees. Worked for the school district in Prairie du Sac as well as partly owned a mental health center for many years where I was administrator, therapist and trainer. Now retired. I spent the first part of my adult life raising six children.
My books:
Iowa Born and Bred, a historical novel combining genealogy, history and imagination.

Flow On Sweet Missouri, a historical novel based on another side of my family.

Renewing Life: Co-writer, A Program for People Affected by Life Threatening Illness. This program manual was originally written in 1988, but the program is still in existence today and the manual is still being sold to participants in the Midwest.

Helping Skills for Teenagers, a self published guide for teenagers wishing to help friends and includes listening skills and how to refer friends to help from adults.

Care Kit: A Manual for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Issues for Schools. Purchased by most of the school districts in Wisconsin in the 1990s.

A Program Guide for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Programs for Schools
I was hired to be a co-writer on this project and also was the final content editor. This guide was published by the state of Wisconsin in the 1990s.

The Magic Potion Play, an alcohol and other drug abuse prevention play for teens to present to young children. The characters are all vegetables in an interesting garden, and community groups have often joined in this project to make interesting costumes for the participants. It provided a great deal of creativity from the participants, who then were trained to discuss the concepts in the play with the children they presented it to. Presented by schools throughout Wisconsin in the 1990s as well as at various conventions.

When My Husband Went to War in 1962, a book about the Cuban Missile Crisis looking for a publisher.

It is way up in the northeast. We are about 25 miles from Iron Mt. MI. Do you know where Crivitz is? We are about 20 miles north of there. If you can find Hwy. 141 just head north and you'll find us. I have a sign in the front yard that says "Authors Row." Billie Williams, a fellow writer, and her husband live next door to me and it's their fault I'm here. Actually, I love it here. I'd love to have you drop by. The coffee pot is always on.
