I write science fiction, with a mostly alternate history twist(involving aliens or time travel). I've gotten people who didn't get the whole concept and why I changed one or two actual historical facts and twisted it slightly. For example, in "Don't Mess With Earth," I had Michelangelo steal the glider plans from Da Vinci(while still painting the Sistine Chapel), while Galileo was actually an advanced life form who helped him build the glider, while he tried to convince the humans that the Earth revolved around the sun. I did have Galileo arrested for heresy though. I have a few more examples, but I don't want to ruin the whole story!
